I am on vacation in Idaho (not a fishing trip) and came accross a fly shop so I stopped in. The guy at the counter couldn't have been nicer and gave me a tying tip to add action to nymphs and small streamers. He said to tie in a small tag of thick tippet material/fishing line slightly behind the head of the fly and facing down. He said that this adds a huge amount of action to the fly as this little tag acts as a rudder and causes the fly to jig during strips. I have yet to try it but the guy seemed really enthusiastic about it so I thought I would share.
