The debate would only be on an idealistic level. I had a buddy forget a fly reel after climbing up to 9000ft to fly fish some lakes. I had managed to stash some contraband ( an ultralight spinning reel) in my pack. He used it with a casting bubble the entire weekend. My dad used to do the same before he became comfortable casting fly line. I know guys who fish bait on a fly rod too. Hey, whatever works for you.
Thats actually a pretty sweet idea. Certainly could give a lot of spinning rod guys a taste of fly fishing before they committed to the difficult task of learning how to cast a fly rod.
I remember seeing this when it came out as a kid. I would've forgotten about it if the article didn't date the product. I was going to get one, but wasn't able to find one. I guess it's good, because I went and bought a fly rod instead.
