Spent the second half of this past week in NC PA. Took the rods along, not knowing really if we’d use them, but glad we did. We drove around Cameron, Potter, Clinton, and Tioga Counties and am happy to report that things are pretty good up there, all things considered after the low flows of this Summer. The Cedar/Slate size streams all had enough water to fish, and their smaller tribs were still continuously flowing too. Don’t get me wrong, things are still very low, and the fish were ultra spooky. We fished three different streams in that Cedar/Slate size range and the fishing was tough and slow, but the ultra low and clear water made it easy to see just how many fish we were spooking...a lot. The fish are alive and well up there, though still very difficult to catch right now.

Numbers caught were low, but we did catch two very nice fish and observed many more. The one my wife caught taped at 24”, and is the largest small stream Brown I’ve ever seen. Beats my biggest by 4.5”. (The one I am holding was 16”, for size reference.) There were fair numbers of a mid-sized light tan Caddis around. We fished a dry/dropper with most fish coming on the dropper. The fish more easily caught were in the little pockets of broken water we could find. Fish in the pools probably saw us coming when we were still gearing up at the vehicle.

Not exactly sure where the spawn is right now. We saw ZERO spawners and no obvious redds, in conditions that would have made it easy to see them. Though I did see some Browns in Schuylkill County paired up last weekend.
