Anyone been on hickory run or mud run recently know how the water temps are? I’ll be there next Friday and wanted to see if it was fish able water temps.

Check with the Evening Hatch or A&A Outfitters. I would guess given the streams themselves and cooler temps, both streams should be okay to fish. Good luck.

I'd use the Tobyhanna Creek USGS gauge as a reference for temps although Toby might be a few degrees warmer than Mud and Hickory.

I look at the Tobyhanna gage daily. Since the Tobyhanna Creek at that location is kind of flowing south to north, it gets a lot of sunlight. My guess is it will read higher temperatures than both Hickory and Mud Run.

Mud Run always stays trout friendly cool. I think Hickory as well because of the gradient. Not sure where the gauge is on the Tobyhanna, but that stream is warmed to trout lethal levels by 'recreational' lakes that ruin perfectly good trout water.

The gauge is on the Carbon County north side where Rte. 940 crosses the creek.

Was up that way yesterday (Not in Hickory Run SP, but general area), water is low in many creeks.

I got the whole day Friday to fish so as long as the water is cold I will be able to spend time finding the fish. Thanks for the update.

I was at Mud Run last Friday morning, low but very fish-able, caught wild browns and brooks in faster water, but caught no remaining stockers.

Friday I went to hickory run but water was very low so I moved to mud run. Water was low but were able to find a few small fish. The highlight was sitting down taking a break and having a black bear pop out about 15 ft away from me to get a drink.

Nice. What kind of fish on mud run? Native brookies?

Did the bear see you? What was the reaction?

It didn’t see me till I stood up and said hey bear. It looked at me and walked in the other direction that it came
