Hello all,

I'm trying to find a good ME lake cabin type destination but w/good local trout streams. Hoping for something within a few hour drive of Acadia for a day trip. so, looking for the perfect spot. Could really use some advice.

Thanks in advance...

Have you checked out Baxter State Park? They have cabin rentals in the park, which is an absolutely beautiful place. Their cabins are rustic, so if you're looking for all the amenities, I would try a place like Homeaway or VRBO. Good luck!

Any place in Maine is a perfect place, it's relative. There are places to fish in Acadia N.P., from my understanding the better places are not in the park. Will you be targeting trout or warm water, because in Maine it matters.
You won't generally find trout, even in water that's cold enough, if they are challenged by smallies, even though they aren't mutually exclusive, they generally don't share water well at least in Maine. The area around Ellsworth is pretty close to Acadia and is fairly close to the Penobscot R. big water. It is wadeable in some areas, but not so in others. In that area it is mostly warm water fish, and stripers and shad. Above Millinocket it's mixed and in the Baxter area it's trout and salmon. It's pretty big water even up there but is wadeable. There are some ideas on where to fish near Acadia, but Baxter isn't near Acadia in terms of time. If you really want to fish Acadia do your research and visit the Maine Forums, Fly Fishing Only and Fly Fishing in Maine.
