magnifier lamp for fly tying

Hi Guys,

i'm looking for the above for tying winter midges, bwo's.

i read the old threads and saw comments on Daylight flex lamps, but they don't seem to make the flex ones any more.

anyone else bought one recently they can recommend ?

i was looking at the Carson Desk Brite 200 - any good ?

I have the Giraffe lighting system. It is a large base with light and magnifier on separate goods necks. I've had it for at least 20 years and the lamp can get quite hot. Recently put a led bulb in it and heat is no longer an issue.

I bought one of them fancy Ott lights with the big magnifying glass on the end once. It's useless. There's just not enough movement to really be able to align it enough to be beneficial.

Buy a set of magnifying "reading" glasses from the drug store.

the big magnifying glass got in the way of actual tying

if you really want that then try before you buy!

get the reading glasses. $2.99 sure does beat the price of the lamp kit

i just had cataract surgery and the doctor gave me a pair of reading glasses. i can now see what the hell i'm tying

I use a magni-fly, I think it's called , for the small stuff. It makes a 20 look like a 12 and the optics are set up so you can be far enough away from the tie that it does not interfere too much.

I got one and I have never used it. It's a great idea it's just not practical for me, to be fair I have pretty good eyes

i got the Carson Magni Fly.

i spent some tying on saturday and loved it. so much easier than taking reading glasses on and off.

i set it up a good 6-8" back from the hook and the lens is big enough for me to see the hook, material and co-ordinate (badly) my hands.

it was $39 on Amazon. bargain imho.
