Rutter's is proposing to develop a 70-acre truck stop at Pinecroft in the headwaters of the Little Juniata River, known as Rutter's 82. This 70 acres would include impervious blacktop which would send heated water into the EV wetland of the area after rains, into Sandy Run (a crucial spawning area for the J's wild trout), and then into the Little Juniata River. The increase of dirt, gas, oil, and debris washing into the wetland and eventually the Little Juniata would be significant.

To check out the problem, visit DEP's Southcentral PA website under its Community Information tab. You can then add an email in opposition to the horrid project before August 16.

There is an article in today's (August 5) Altoona Mirror discussing a public meeting that was held last night about the project.

A Walmart project was halted at this location about 10 years ago. Hopefully DEP will stop the development of this ill-advised truck stop there now.

If you are a fan of the LJR, it would be worth your while to examine the project and then write a letter/email opposing it.
