Little J Springs

I've never fished where the LJ makes the bend behind Ironville, where it moves away from the highway 453 and Ironville Road follows it. Is there a springhead of significance up here? The map shows a Logan Spring Run coming along or through more likely, the Enterprise quarry up here and another creek coming in on the other bankside.
The water that gets lots of spring influence is furher down to below the Grier School and is pretty flat. Habitat starts looking better, going upstream, where Ironville road peels off 453. I'm looking for the upper most place.where the temperture moderating effects of a spring start. I'm familiar with other springs further down. I've not explored up here, and i dont live close enough to spend down-time poking around and exploring.
Thanks for the help.

The lack of replies to this gives me faith in this community. That is the kind of information that hopefully we don’t post about on this website. The exact location of springs that enter into limestoners is akin to asking for “honey holes”

As much as I’d like to help, I’m only here to say I hope others keep this info to themselves.

Explore what you can, when you can. What I will say is that the LJ has more springs than anyone even knows.

Insulting. For all the help I've given people on this board in the past. Good thing Bill Anderson didn't publish an hour of L J information.
One thing you can do is look at the EV, CW Fisheries, HQ etc.... status of the tributaries and cross reference them on a map.

This will tell you much.

The notion that the the LJR has more springs than anyone knows is romantically charge horsepucky.
The watershed groups and scientists that have studied the LJR for years have a very good idea of all the springs.

This isn't a far away stream in the last frontier or Kamchatka.

Exploration is the best part of flyfishing.

If you just walk and fish up through there when flows are moderate to low, you can see the various places where the spring water comes in.

It's very interesting.

We shouldn't rob of you the joys of exploring it for yourself.

Love it when a newcomer tries to talk down an OG. 🤣

I did not mean to talk down or be disrespectful. You can review my post history to see that I am a positive contributor here. Just because I am new to this forum does not mean I am new to fly fishing.

Everyone has a different set of ethics when it comes to sharing information about rivers. The LJR is not a secret, so perhaps sharing information here publicly about that river is okay. I have watched Bill's presentation and I am aware that the youtube video is published. Bill has done amazing things for the river in terms of access, study, and conservation.

Yesterday there was shelf ice and ice in pools in the section below and near the poop plant. There was no ice below Ironville to Pemberton where I fished. Elk run is listed, Logan Spring is not listed. The discharge from the poop plant is warmer than the river, but I do not know how many CFS it contributes and what temperature regulating effect it has.

And yes, the number of springs and seeps entering the river is not infinite. As land and water use changes, so do the aquifers. These subtle changes can have impacts on discharge rates and locations. I have seen some completely dry up, and others get more flow seasonally and over the years.

I'm looking for the upper most place.where the temperture moderating effects of a spring start.
This is a complex question which seems to be the root of what you are asking. There are a few HQCW tribs that enter into the LJR well above Tyrone. Sandy Run is a spring influced creek that is class A, HQCW. There are two tribs that enter just below brush mtn, as I mentioned before.

Do you mean uppermost in the watershed? Or uppermost in the section below Tyrone?

I agree with this. Fish low flows, fish high flows. Fish all the flows and explore. The beautiful thing about fly fishing is that no two days are ever the same. You can fish the same section, in the same conditions, and the same time of year and the results can be very different.

My two cents. Yes the tone of his post appeared to be Karen-ish. That can happen in a forum and not what the poster meant it to be. He clarified and I believe him.
I more so don't want the forum to give the impression that someone with 3000 posts is viewed differently from someone with 100. Gees, I look at mine and it's over 1300 (and more in the old forum) and I am seriously questioning if I had 1300 quality posts. Certainly not!
Syl isn't exactly making that point, I understand. His point is he has freely provided information, which is true. Newcomers should not feel this is a "club". If you are not recruiting new, you are dying.
Even people like Bill and myself who openly share information don't share ALL information 😉

No use in arguing or critiquing someone for asking for advice. If someone does choose to publicly share their honey holes, they can reap the consequences of that. It doesn’t hurt anyone if they ask about a singular spring. He isn’t asking for everyone’s favorite spot to fish like some others.

That being said, if anyone has mapped out the springs in the LJ and is willing to share, my PM’s are certainly open 😉

THat's all I'm asking. It's the L.J. It's not a secret. No reason for anyone to get P!$$Y. Just don't say anything if you don't want.
