My buddy just bought his first fly rod, Hobbs Creek 8.5" 4 weight. I wanted to know if he should over line it or put a 4 weight line on it. If anyone has experience with Hobbs Creek rods I'd appreciate you thoughts. Thanks

Given that the product description say "easy loading", it probably doesn't need to be over lined.

Put a weight forward floating 4wt line on it and go fishing.

If you don't have either 4 or 5wt lines spooled up for your buddy to try, call up a fly shop to see if they have any lines (that they carry) already spooled up for test casting rods. Most will, so it' just a matter of stopping by and taking them for a test drive.

This is just one of the reasons we need to support local shops in this hobby.
