so currently use a 6wt platinum [http://www.beulahflyrods.com/fly-fishing-rods/platinum-switch/platinum-switch-6wt/] and use it with the SA 7wt nymphing line [http://buy.scientificanglers.com/lines/mastery-textured-series/mastery-textured-series-nymph-indicator.html] and works pretty well. However on the beulah page it recommends the SA steelhead line in a 7wt or 8wt [http://buy.scientificanglers.com/lines/mastery-fly-lines/mastery-series-steelhead.html]. I know its a long shot but just wondering if anyone uses the same rod and the steelhead line combo? just wondering if i would really gain anything jumping to the 8wt steelhead line. the taper is longer on the steel line and seems to have a heavier head weight, so id imagine that would slow the rod a bit for action? just something thats been in the back of my mind and looking for thoughts, thanks

I make my own lines for my switch rods, and I prefer heavy short heads.

You're not going to find one line that does everything well.
The +2 line weight is used to load the rod for roll or switch casting.
That particular rod was designed to take advantage of the heavier line weights.
I was going to recommend Beulah's 325gr Scandi line but I'm not sure what you want out of the line.

So, it all depends if you are going to primarily roll cast or over head cast.
Indicator ymphing vs. dries vs. streamers.
Swinging streamers with sinking or poly leaders vs. stripping streamers.

If you're going to a lot of overhead shoot, cast and strip, you might like a Rio outbound in an 8wt.
A Rio 6wt chucker already figures in the +2 line weight and is also a short head and will roll cast-shoot heavy stuff better than the outbound.
beulah's scandi line could be a decent compromise if you've learned to switch cast and can do a couple of basic touch and go spey casts.
Since you have a short/light switch rod, I'd stay away from those longer 50+ head lines like that one you linked to.

I fish a Beulah switch (7/8) with the Rio Switch Chucker and it's been a dream so far with both nymphing setups as well as basic switch casts and swinging with sink tips.

i should have mentioned that i mostly use this setup for erie steelheading. for the most part i am indicator nymphing. pretty much do lots of roll/ snap t casting pending on the run im on. ill have to take a look at the rio chucker. seeing as i mostly nymph any others i should consider? thanks
