I have a fairly old headlamp that still works fine. It is ok at night but it does'nt appear as bright as it once was. Also it is a little uncomfortable on top of a hat.

Was thinking of getting the clip on the cap lights or maybe just get a camo hat with the lights in the visor.

Questions-

Anyone have the cap with the lights?

Can you change the battery or is this a disposable deal?

What about the clip ones? Do they block your field of vision?

Thanks for any information- Paul

I have had the clip on ones and liked them except for one thing. They all have plastic clips...they break...then you have a light that you can't clip on anything..if you find one with metal clips buy it and tell me where you got it.

I use this headlamp that I got from Wally World. It's suited me just fine while backpacking and fishing and I highly recommend it. It's lightweight and I don't feel it when wearing it with a baseball cap. It comes with the red lights, which is nice if you need light but don't wanna lose your night vision.

penlight that you can hold in your mouth[might have to remove it while moistening half barrel, blood, clinch knots] always worked for me.Otherwise I try never to use a light as your nite vision suffers.

That was my first thought. When it gets to the point where I can't see, its time to get out. I've shuffled and stumbled my way to too many river banks in darkness. If the water has any color the lights don't help where they need to anyway. I remember watching a half dozen guys at the Pine creek Jam bushwacking their way thru the brush because they couldn't even find their original entry point even with their headlamps.

one of the scariest experiences of my life was staying until it was pitch dark .I was fishing Mosquito creek,my father had brained washed me into believing only a complete idiot would fish Pa. after opening week because the whole state was crawling with rattlesnakes.
Carried a lite after that but tried never to use it.lol
Skunks are the worst-

I use the clip on the visor lamps. Have a white for walking in and out and a red to use on the water so my night vision doesn't suffer. They work well for me.

i like them. tom is right metal clips are a must. here is a decent one

Thanks Bruno..that is now on my shopping list. And what a coincidence, I have a birthday coming in April!!

I was thinking of something like this for the whiteflies on Slippery Rock Creek:

But then they would all gravitate toward the light and the fish would starve.

heres mine. Has three setting, white LED, Red LED, and white lamp.

That's the one I have. Wally world has them for about $12. If you just use the LEDs, the batteries will last 2 or more seasons.

i like jacks idea ;-)

Put that on the Susky in late July and you'd think you were in a blizzard... The white mayflies are all over everything along the river that time of the year.

Thanks for the ideas.

I found this one Bruno suggested- it was alot cheaper here.

I might take a look at some of the cap ones at ****s or Gander mt. to see how those feel/work.

I got this 1 as a X-mas gift.

headlight

not very cost effective but i do like it.
