My fiance likes to fish with me occasionally, but she hates wearing a vest or chestpack. She was looking through my orvis catalog the other day and said she wanted a lanyard instead.

Does anyone use one and can you give me any recommendations for a good one that a woman would like? The ones in Orvis are nice but I just wanted to see if anyone has any other brands that they recommend. I know they are easy to build but I am just going to buy one for her.

Thanks

Jason

Best I've found:

They've got a plastic covered wire that holds it's shape - priceless.

The bead colors should appeal to your fiance as well. It's flyfishing jewelry. :-D

THanks Heritage. That may be exactly what I am looking for. I am surprised how expensive lanyards are though. I was hoping to find one for about $20.00.

Check out ebay. I got one for under $10. Or you could build your own for her. Nice little thing to hang around a bunch of flowers.

Just make sure you ask to go fishing while she is still ohhing and ahhing over your creativeness. She has to say yes after such a thoughtful thing.

I bet you can make a trip to the hobby store and get everything you need for 3 bucks. Cord, beads, and ez open swivels.

Couldn't understand the $25+ price tag empty ones go for, so I made my own.

The cord was recycled speaker wire, about 14g.
The big spacer beads were $2 from Sprawlmart.
The smaller beads were decorative from a bracelet I liked, I paid $5. Or, you know, Sprawlart for $2.
Six large sized South Bend swivels, Sprawlmart, $1.
Two aligator clips from Radioshack, $2.
Some heatshrink tubing, $2.

Stock as required. $1 pill bottle for gink, tippet holder is fly line looped, craft foam patch to dry flies, retractor is a freebie from work, hemostats, fancy mini fly box.

If I want to travel light, grab lanyard and go.

She can make her own with fancy beads she likes from the craft stores, y'know?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. All good ideas.

For $7, thats the ticket. Get two! at ebay

Hard to argue with the $7, easy to argue with the $5.25 to ship it. Still, buy two and add some of the bits and pieces you'll want on it, that's pretty solid.

Unless you want to make a pretty thing for the lady, then you're on your own.

Although, if you want to strap so much nonsense around your chest you look like you're wearing a breast plate to deflect bullets, this guy over here's got you covered: http://www.leatherandcanvas.com/html/lanyard.html

Or, perhaps you've got more money than you know what to do with, http://knotsmith.com/TFLY.htm can help you out!

Just wear a metal stringer around your neck, maybe throw a couple beads on it.

Only works if you've got the deputy dog badge, sir.

That one's a little on the cheap side, that's easily beatable out of the Sprawlmart craft isle and a few snap stringers from the fishin' aisle.

Here is site with a few.

Buy her a pearl "lanyard" instead.

Really, you went there?

Well played, sir. Entirely out of the expected. I laughed.

Troutbert - again well played.

I will try the pearl lanyard and tell you how that went....LOL.
