Really nice Sandfly. What's the purpose of the mono loop under the tail?

tie on a dropper to it.

Do you find that it works better than tying off the bend of the hook?

If you tie a loop at the eye of the hook and out the back you can attach the tippet to the fly using the same method as attaching a poly indicator. ie forms loop in the tippet, pass it through the front loop on the fly, the pass the fly through the loop. Run the tag end of the tippet through the rear loop and tie on dropper flies. The indicator fly can be adjusted to depth at any time.

Yep. I tie such loops at the back of most of my big foam indicator flies. In my experience, however, when you slide the leader it tends to put some curls in the leader and, these days, I usually just use the loop to tie a fresh section of tippet directly on to.

Lookin good Bob, I like the loop idea.

FI,
I don't slide it when I do it, I loosen and then adjust. Sometimes there is a kink.. But I do have to admit I don't change the depth often, not do I use them often.
