Most tyers find it easier to use a whip-finish tool, but some whip-finish by hand, except for smaller flies. This video shows how to whip-finish a fly by hand >

My whip finish tool is permanently attached to my hand, that bent wire thing is redundant. It’s so easy anyone can do it.

Haha Tom, I do tuck a pair of scissors in my right palm and around my pinky. I learned on my own early on to whip finish by hand, I find it more accurate than a whip finisher. You can place the wraps exactly where you want them.
