Anybody know of any books that show the history of trout stocking and how the whole thing got started?
 
I imagine that Paul Schullery's "American Fly Fishing" covers this topic. I think the old Cecil Heacox "The Compleat Brown Trout" does, too. If you're one of the young lions who is computer savvy, there's probably a place on the Internet where you can find it, too, but that's way beyond me.

not a book, and not the U.S., but there's some excellent readings on the early days of the PFBC available in the form of reports to the governor.
