I am looking for a good fly tying light. I’m using a basic table light and it’s just not cutting it for me. At 53 my eyes just aren’t what they used to be. LOL!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Brian

this is good one in folds flat and you can run it off a power bank if you decide to go to one of Jerry's tying night at Crooked Eye Brewery. Suds and Bugs

Or this one if you want to go a little smaller

I bought mine - an Ott light - from a Joanne fabric/craft store.
Many styles and sizes to choose from - and very modestly priced.

Works great

Second the Ott Light from a craft store.

Two weeks ago I purchased a $50 LED OttLite for $30 at JoAnn. They were offering 40% off any OttLite for several days. Other craft stores offer similar savings from time to time.

I was able to convince a clerk to unpack one LED style and one 13w tube bulb style lights, so we could plug them in to compare. The LED's are more expensive, and they definitely are brighter.

OttLites are execellent for fly tying.

I got one of these from a local Lowes : https://www.lowes.com/pd/Utilitech-13-25-in-Adjustable-Stainless-Steel-LED-Desk-Lamp-with-Metal-Shade/1000003090

I got this one. 20 bucks. Works great for lighting up the vise and it's small and unobtrusive. Not so great if you want to light the entire desk. I'm contemplating drilling and tapping my vise base to the lamp right to my base.

I am searching for an LED light and magnifier. I already have the fluorescent magnifier light sold at the craft stores. Any suggestions?

LED sewing machine light on ebay. I use them for my reloading machines and fly tying.

Just purchased a standard 4ft fluorescent shop light for my basement tying station. $20 + $10 for the warm tubes. Hung it from a return air duct with sheet metal screws. Works great and lights the whole area. It’s definitely not sexy, but hey it works great!

I've had this one for two years with no issues. Folds flat for transport, is bright and has high arm can go directly over your vise for optimal performance.
Its made of aluminum and is unobtrusive on my tying desk. Also has a USB port for phone charging which works well on the road.

I need a magnifier as well. I found this light. Anyone familiar with this brand? https://www.magnifyingaids.com/4X_Bright_White_LED_Desk_Lamp_Magnifier-6.5_Inch_Round?zenid=951559cf8b39055a5cd5428c2e9656fb

Get a headband magnifier instead, trust me you'll be MUCH happier.

Lights with with built in magnification have magnifying glasses that get in the way of many trying operations like winding materials, dubbing loops or even thread.

A headband magnifier is the way to go with many different lenses or strengths available so you can find a comfortable working distance, even later as your eyes get weaker with age.

You also can buy the best light for your needs without compromising just because it has a magnifier.

There are lots of brands like Hat Eyes, Optivisor (the brand I use) and a WHOLE bunch of knock-offs. Some even have lights attached!!

Good luck!

A big +1 ^

I never was happy with the magnifier / light thing.

I have a magnifier headband light like BB mentioned above > Magnifier Light Headband and it works great for fly tying.
