I've been squeezing the barbs off my hooks with needle nose pliers. It sure makes releasing Trout a lot easier. I was wondering what barbless hooks you fellas use. I like the fact that sometimes when I get them close they get off without me having to handle them. Most of the time I can release them without having to handle them by grabbing the fly popping it out.

On small hooks (sz 10-20) I just bend them down with the standard tool.

If you use streamers I have found the Riffle brand of barbless hooks to be very effective. Riffle is the registered trademark for hooks sold at the Kettle Creek Tackle Shop. Hook number is 1065 and I buy size 4, 6 and 8. You can tie big nymphs on them too. They are heavy hooks.

I agree with albatross. I find the firehole hooks to be a good value.

I also like fulling mill for dry fly hooks and OrientSun for nymph hooks.

Mitten scissor clamps are a very useful tool for any fisherman regardless of tackle preference.

There are YouTube videos that demonstrate how to not only make a hook barbless, but also how to easily tie a limited slip knot.

Check them out and then purchase a pair on your next trip to the fly shop.

The jig style barbless hooks made popular by euro nymphing are extremely good at keeping fish on the line.
