here is what I use for quill bodys, fly in demo is a size 20 and last fly on bottom is a size 26..sorry havn't tied this small for awhile since we only use flys from size 6 to 16 dry flies.

Thanks for the tutorial...I should probably know the materials by looking at them, but I don't know what you are using for the body section between the thorax and the tail. Could you clue me in?
 
It's called Quill "Z" i make this product. It replaces quill bodies with a lighter and waterproof material. the strips are over 6" long.check my site for details.

Thanks for the response...I may be ordering some of that material. The Savage has some nice Quill hatches and I'm always interested in broadening my fly box.
 
Just a little info.

Quills are used instead of dubbing for the body of dry flies. Sandfly's material is a bit different than a natural quill where it is already waterproofed. A quill will help make the segmented body look a bit more realistic, but natural quills can be a bit hard to work with so not all tyers like them. They don't necessarily match just the "red quill" or "black quill" hatches, but you can use them for any dry fly you like. I might jump on some of those too before the season starts up.
