A must have pattern in your box and easy to tie with common materials >

I've had a long standing debate with my son about ant (my choice) vs. beetle (his choice) for late summer trout. I've got to admit they both catch fish (and are easy to tie.)

I once watched a guy on the Little Lehigh fishing a foam beetle with a couple of split shot ahead of it to imitate a cress bug. He caught a lot of fish while doing so.

I think it was Merle who used to talk about fishing beetles a lot.

...or maybe it was Paul G

anyway, I think Dave posted this same video back in 2013. Add rubber legs instead of hackle and its pretty much my go to bluegill fly: a foam spider.

I believe that was PaulG. Along with orange ants, and throw to the bank. Best advice ever. GG

Probably the fly I fish most often and the one I tie on first from June to November.
