Floating the sighter

There are times when tight-line nymphing is not the best approach, like on smaller streams and when the water is low and clear and trout are very spooky. Fishing with a sighter close-in is not the best choice. You can switch to a dry/dropper and cast a smaller nymph upstream for stealth or you can float your sighter and cast further upstream to not spook fish. I do this often. I like to add a little strike putty to points on my sighter for visibility and floatability and grease it up with paste floatant.
