Well im going on a trip with my fishing club ( family ties) and wer going to a private pond kind of thing and fishing for big rainbows thay say ther all bout the size of steelhead and was wondering how to fish theme thay say use wolly buggers and egg paterns
what size tipit should i use should i take my 6 wt rod

Try woolly buggers, taken a variety of colors from black to while, fish the dark colors of a cloudy day and bright colors on a bright day, including white.

Try brown or black beetles if you want to try on top. They may be pellet fed.

If its anything like the private trout pond I fished, woolly buggers work well. A 6 weight with a sink tip line and 3X tippet should do the trick. Just cast it out there, let it sink near the bottom and strip it in. And brace yourself, they hit hard. :-D
