I'm heading up to Pulaski next week (Oct 8-14). Interested in your favorite flies and sizes for salmon. Thanks in advance.

Here is the last Whitakers Salmon River report with a list of flies that have been productive.

DAILY REPORT
September 27 2018

On Thursday the early morning temperature as in the upper 40's, but in the afternoon the temperature reached into the 60's. The anglers we spoke with who fished the DSR reported having the most success in the upper end of the DSR. Anglers stopping into the shop reported getting into a mix of kings and cohos in the mid section of river. The anglers we spoke with who fished the upper end of the river reported getting into mostly kings in the deeper holes and larger runs.

For those anglers anglers who are fly fishing the most productive patterns have been egg sucking leeches, woolly buggers, comets, glo-bugs and estaz eggs. For those anglers who are bottom bouncing or float fishing pink and blue egg sacs have been productive.

The best advice I can give is to have some of the above listed flies in your box inn various sizes and colors.

Most important, check with the local shops when you get there for colors, sizes and flies that are working at the time.

Have a good trip.

I wouldn't add anything about kings - enough said.

However, red or cerise and black seem to be great colors if you luck into cohos.

Yeah, I've been watching the stream reports daily and trying to tie the recommended patterns. I'll have to add some red to my box JeffK. Thanks guys.

Five or six #7 Split shot about 12" above a #2 sparse nymph. You will be hooking lots of salmon.
