Looking at my tying area and assembling my materials list and wondering where folks buy their supplies both online and brick n mortar? There used to be a little shop near me (Ligonier area) that closed awhile back. Back in the day - mid to late 90s - I used to get
Some insane deals at the old Pechins store in Dunbar, before the big
fire that ended one of the more unique shopping experiences in western PA. What are some favorite on-line sites?
Thanks - Mark

There are some good deals online, but I try and give as much business to a local fly shop near me, they do a great job keeping a stocked inventory.

I too like to support the local shops here in the Carlisle area. TCO and the recently opened Precision Fly shop in Mt. Holly. However, it is sometimes hard not to take advantage of some online deals.

One place close to you is Competitive Angler. They are based out of Latrobe, primarily an online company but I believe if you email them you can stop by their location and look at everything

Same here.

Another good option this time of year are the FF shows. There's usually some fly shops that have booths at these shows and good deals can often be had (ditto for rod building materials). Also, don't overlook local outdoor shows at fire halls and small town venues as you can often find a lot of tying stuff and used FF gear for sale at these local outdoor shows.

i used to try to support brick and mortar stores, but, they are harder and harder to come by.

my favorites are http://www.sportinggentleman.com/
and https://detteflies.com/

they both have things that are hard to find!! good people.

online,it's hard to beat Ebay, but,i also use
https://www.feather-craft.com/fly_tying
https://jimsflyco.com/default.aspx
https://www.captainhookswarehouse.com/index.cfm?page=home

and,of course,i buy things at craft and fabric stores.

it also helps to have hunting friends for feather and fur.

also, fortunately ,i found a brick and mortar store in connecticut that carries a lot of fly tying material.
it's called shagbark,in east hampton.

i also get stuff at cabela's and bass pro

I get most of my materials from the sporting gentleman. But if there is something that I need that's not in stock and will take Steve a little bit to get it in and I need it fast I order from Bears Den .

Not really any local small time shops by me so. Orvis, ebay, or jstockard.

For online stores I find JStockard (www.jsflyfishing.com) generally has the best prices.

For interesting feathers take a look at www.featheremporium.com

I just had a bad experience with JStockard I purchased a saddle from them and the tracking said it was delivered at my house and it never was and they basically told me to pound sand when I emailed them for the fifth time so I will not be making any more purchases from them anymore, they are the only company I have had a issue with .

I usually buy local (TCO / Orvis in Haverford) or at shows, but if I'm after something specific I usually use Fly Fish Food, Competitive Angler or will order direct from Firehole Outdoors for hooks and The Fly Tying Source for beads and hooks. Occasionally will buy things on sale from a variety of other websites.

I've heard very negative things about The Feather Emporium so I've never ordered - but I know a few people have had good experiences as well. I will just leave this here: https://www.bbb.org/us/wi/madison/profile/feather-products/the-feather-emporium-0694-1000007516/complaints.

Tying materials are something that I still try to buy from a shop - or show.
When picking hackle, dubbing, and feathers - I prefer to actually see it before buying.
Things often don't look the same - especially color - when viewed on a computer screen.

And I'll second FFP as my favorite place to shop.
Even though it's a 3 hour drive away from where I live, I always stop in there when fishing central PA, and stock up.

Flyfisher paradise mostly on line. I stop in at TCO when I’m up around the Yellow Breeches. Galloup’s Slide Inn on line for some streamer material.

the extremely nice folks at jstockard doesnt deliver anything to anybodies house so why blame them when its the postal services fault? they didnt lose your order

did you bring the tracking number to the postal sevice to investigate?

in all of the orders ive placed with jstockard, ive only had one problem with the quality of peacock herl and it was quickly remedied by them
