old actionrods and a few heddons came with faux bamboo paint jobs, looks like bean is bringing it back. not sure what I think of it yet. pretty cool little reel though.

Not worth 300 to me but I have looked and some classic fiberglass builders on facebook. Like Greywolf rods & D.L. Smiths flyrod company. They have some beautiful rods.

Am I missing the point here it says it's a graphite blank.

it's a graphite blank with a bamboo paint job. read the detailed specs. I just got the bean catalog and there is a good picture of it in there.

Yeah Easton Archery did a line of grpahite arrows with wood grain pain on the them. Same idea the only thing its a graphite blank with bamboo coloration. & no its not made by easton.

Gotcha

I'm not sure what the paint job has to do with it.

I have one of these in a 6'6" 3wt and I absolutely love it. it casts as well as or better than your typical pretentious $600 + outfit.

So until you've actually tried one I guess it's pretty hard to say (with any validity) that it's not worth the $300. It's worth much more.

looks cool but i wouldnt pay 300 for a graphite rod, maybe glass, but not graphite

That reel looks a lot like the now discontinued orvis battenkill reel.

Overall - it looks like a pretty nice combo, for a rather modest price IMO

I thought the same thing dryflyguy, both about the reel and the value.
probably won't buy one though, unless I can get one on closeout or something like that.
the original post was about the paint job, just haven't seen fake bamboo paint jobs in a long time!

Actually, I paid $242.25 when they had the 15% off deal, and with free shipping (shipping is always free). They did charge tax on top of that because we have a store here in PA (Pittsburgh).

Now that included the rod, reel, SA Mastery Trout line ($69 anywhere), leader, and a really nice rod tube!

And they always have the 100% satisfaction guarantee...
Even if I shut this puppy in the car door they will take care of it.

Nobody can beat that

The real fake bamboo rod is the Hexagraph. A solid graphite blank, six-sided just like the flats on a cane rod.

Funny thing is, most of the people who have tried them seem to think they're pretty good.

The hexagraph isn't a bad rod (had one several years ago), but for the money they ask for them I can have the real thing. Not solid graphite though. It is 6 graphite strips that have foam glued to them. Graphite around the outside and foam in the middle.

That looks like a pretty sweet deal to me, especially if you can find a coupon. I might jump on this one.

I want one of these someday;
