I've seen reports of grannoms being forecast to hatch soon in my area, and Im curious what will happen with the upcoming fairly long cold spell. Basically, if the grannoms start to hatch and then you get a cold air mass that drops daytime highs to the mid 40's and lows in the mid 20's for several days (with some variance), will a caddis emergence thay had already started stop completely for several days until water temps are favorable (low 50's)? The answer to a question like this is ptobably pretty nuanced, im just wondering what some of you guys have maybe seen regarding a situation like that.

Once they start, they usually keep going.
Although cold weather tends to make them hatch later in the day.
And will also prolong the hatch a bit

April 17th. Stamp it. (Unless they started today and I'm waaaay off).

That makes sense, they don't shut off completely in cold weather, but still trickle off and then pick up again when temps permit, prolonging the hatch.

I fished them a few years ago on the Neshannock and it was snowing.

do you guys also call Grannoms Apple Caddis, or is that an entirely different caddis.

cheers

Mark.

Grannom caddis have a dark body often imitated by peacock hurl or black or dark brown dubbing. I think not the same as apple.

Grannoms are also one of the larger caddis usually a 14 or 12.

Anyone have info on rain affecting a hatch?
