Eye to Hook size?

I'm looking to tie a few Clouser Minnows, but I haven't worked with dumbbell eyes before.

What size eyes would be good for a size 8 fly?

For hook sizes 6 through 10 I tie some with small (1/30 oz) some with medium (1/40oz) for different water depths.

I suppose you want a more detailed answer other than "the ones that look right."

I mostly buy the not-quite-smallest ones, if that's any better? I dunno, things like eye size seem pretty mutable. As long as it gives weight and a hotspot, yer covered.

I admire the kinds of people who keep track of stuff like bead and eye sizes and weights. I just don't have that sort of paitence.
