This a good buy. This was my second choice when I bought my 9-8. If I hadn't, I'd take it.

Still available?

Do you think it would be good in the salt?

Within reason.

I am not a salt water fisherman, but have fished salt on occasions with guides.

It can surely handle 25 pound king salmon. ( my friend uses one) anything in that class should be fine

Ive caught Bluefish, stripers, bonefish, and redfish on 8 wts but not this one. The largest of these in the 15 to 17 pound range. You would be severely undergunned with tarpon, big sharks and the largest stripers etc

Baby tarpon, sand sharks and stripers to ~25 pound would be fair fame. The short answer is it depends on your target species. In my opinion, it probably maxes out on the stripers.

The reel does have a solid drag.

Be sure to hose everything off REALLY WELL with fresh water upon return, especially the reel.

Are you in Eastern Pennsylvania?

Maybe we can meet up to test it.
