Looking at trying the dry dropper rig and was wondering if there is a "rule of thumb" as to what size nymph per the dry fly. Obviously you can't drop a sz8 stonefly from a sz18 BWO. Thanks

Yeah for me, I fish this rig quite a bit and its just kind of common sense as to what will sink a dry and what won't. I GENERALLY go one size larger w/ my dry than what I'm using w/ my nymph, just to help balance the weight of the nymph. So if I'm using a 14 hare's ear, I'll use a 12 wulff or caddis as the dry. There are times, though, where my nymph is the same size as my dry, especially w/ a rig like a zebra midge and g-gnat.

Some flies, once you gink them up, are unsinkable haha! If I get a nice bushy wulff up top, I'm pretty confident that I can drop big nymphs (maybe not size 8 stone flies!) off it and keep that sucker floating all day.

Thanks I figured it was close to that.
