Difficulties (for me) in the photos section

Any reason why I can't paste code or use the link feature to submit in the photos section? I can get it to work only by uploading the actual file. I've tried using the link and code buttons, and just pasting the code and with preview it just shows the code or link, not the pic. I have no problem getting it to work in the forum. Example:

Dave, in my opinion the photos section is probably the most appropriate place to allow off-server-hosted large images. Much of the beauty of wild trout is their intense coloring and the surrounding beauty of the woods- details that are difficult to appreciate at 640 pixels.

Not sure why offsite images don't work in the the photo section as they do in the regular forums. Let me play some more with the steps.
