I'm kind of a beginner at tying so if my proportions are a little off, I'm still learning...

Here are a couple crawdads I tied up to try and fool some Smallies this summer.

Very nice...those will catch some fish. What did you use for the shell back on the red one?

Swiss Straw and hit it with a Red marker and a coat of head cement..
 
Really neat!! That first one that is red looks almost like the Larry the Lobster fly that they fish with in Nova Scotia.
 
Great job and very nice ties! I really like the way the swiss straw looks on these. At the risk of asking a stupid question, are crawdads ever red in nature? I've only ever seen them cooked :) and I know that loster and crabs only turn red when cooked, so I'm just curious why so many crawdad patterns are red. I'm guessing it is just a color that triggers a strike, but I have always found it kinda funny.

try putting the hook up instead of down
