I would like to find out from you all what is the binocular of choice, if any. I carry the run of the mill off the shelf kind and with a busy trapping season they seemed to get some moisture in them, go figure! I have been looking for a decent pair of compact binoculars for ALL light, and weather conditions, since I am out and about just like your mailman. I, like you all, travel light(snicker), so compact is very important for the packability! One last thing just moved to this state almost a year ago, and have yet to wet a fly but in my travels trapping I have seen some very nice creeks and brooks that look my-tee-fine! To tie your own fly is rewarding, tying with your own fir makes it special!

Dear windknot,

You may want to give us more to go on? You can get 10X27 Bushnell waterproof and fogproof binoculars in Camo for $ 69.00 and you can spend $ 1,000.00 plus for Swarovski's.

I've never used a bad pair of Nikon binoculars and their waterproof and fogproof models start at around $ 150.00. If Camo isn't critical I'd look hard at Nikons.

Welcome aboard BTW!

Regards,
Tim Murphy 🙂

Dear Windknot,

Go to www.cabelas.com and check out these choices, Bushnell H20's are $ 45.00 to $ 60.00. Cabela's XT compacts are $ 140.00 to $ 150.00, and the Nikon's are $ 130.00 to $ 160.00.

Like I said it's hard to go wrong with Nikon's.

Regards,
Tim Murphy 🙂

I second the Nikon recommendation. A pair of 8 x 35 compacts should run somewhere around $150.

In a lifetime of birding I haven't anything for a price that out performed Nikons binoculars. I think mine are 8X40 or 8X20, but the light gathering ability of the Nikons is great and the clarity is excellent, I can identify a hawk from 2 to 3 miles away with the ones I use.

Fourth vote for Nikon. I have a 7 x 30 pair of Nikon compact binox for about 15years. I’d rate it as one of the best thing I have ever bought. No fogging and always crystal clear. One thing to remember is that compact binox don’t transmit as much light in low light conditions as a full size pair, but as Chaz said, the Nikons are one of the brightest.

I would like to thank you all for the input. ;I think my girlfriend would realy like a pair on Nikon binoculars for valentines day, she would get alot of use out of them I'm sure.... Thanks again. I will let you know what my girlfriend gets, and how she likes them.

Johnny
