The Olive hatches are not too far away!

Often an emerger pattern is called for when the trout are not taking duns floating on the surface.

The Barr Emerger is a tried-and-true pattern that has worked for me for quite a while.

It's really more of a floating nymph pattern.

It's east to tie and uses very common materials that most fly tyers would have on hand.

Below is an excellent video by Tim Flagler showing how to tie the pattern.

It often outfishes a dun pattern during a hatch or can be used in the early stages of a BWO hatch.

Give it a try when you see some olive activity....soon according to Phil!
