Hi There Folks,

I am new around here and am looking for some input on fishing the Brandywine river in the Chester County area. I am a Delco native hand have spent a fair amount of time fishing Chester Creek, Ridley Creek, and the East Branch of the Brandywine Creek near route 30 and over the last few years have switched to fly fishing. Since my sons are showing an interest in fishing this year (6 and under) I've been taking them out whenever I can to throw worms at the bluegills and smallmouth, and they've been loving it. Problem is there are only a handful of places that I know of that offer half-decent bank fishing that I can safely get my 3 year old to, so I'm looking to expand our rotation of fishing spots to keep them from getting bored.

Are there any good parking/access areas that along the river that are worth stopping at with kids? I'm not looking for any secret spots or solitude, just a "this parking area is worth a stop" kind of thing. I'd like to try stopping at Shaw's Bridge Park off of Creek Rd. as it looks like a nice place to start but any other suggestions in the area or otherwise locally would be great.

Thanks for any input you can share

I am pretty sure you can fish and fish safely from a spot or two on the Brandywine Museum of Art property.

A phone call will get you the answer as to whether they allow fishing.

Another possibility is the former Brandywine Picnic Park property. I don't know who owns it now but the grounds guy who worked for the former owners always gave me access and let me park in their lot as long as I made sure to leave before he locked the gate.

You might want to find out who owns it now and ask for permission.

Good luck!!

Plenty of easy access at Shaws Bridge Park. Access at Stroud Preserve too.
