just heard on the news, the biggest fish kill yet just happened in Montgomery County. It was in the schuylkill and had to do with moyer meat co leaking chlorine or something. Google brings up more details.

Biggest this year......not even close..........1-3 thousand fish is not even close to the biggest this year..........

But--

There needs to be some serious action taken against MOPEC.....not sure what we as fisherman could do.....I am not political in the slightest..........maybe somebody on the site would have a good idea as to SHOW OUR major concern of this continuing problem with MOPEC.........I don't know....but this is certainly not the first time for MOPEC to have polluted our streams and harmed the environment...........

just my thoughts

oh, just going by what the news said. *shrug*

Looks like the fishkill was the biggest at MOPEC "to date". They've had others!

I don't know if we have to do anything as of yet... DEP is investigating and will assess fines. It's pretty much a criminal investigation, so it's not a "political" situation. Unless we feel the company is getting off light when the fines do come out.

MOPAC is a huge beef processing plant in Franconia. hey routinely have problems with their ammonia and chlorine systems and last year had a riot over Christmas bonuses. Most of the workers are Hispanic and Asian. The facility islf is almost constantly greasy but meets health and agriculture standards. When I worked in Souderton, we used to respond there for medical problems. Also in that area is Marcho Veal and Pilgrims Pride Poultry, the one that got shut down because of Lysteria. All sorts of Ammonia and Chlorine issues with most of their "treated" wastes going to the Skippack and East Branch of the Perk. MOPAC is so big that a fine in the tens of thousands probably doesn't hurt them much. They just pass it along to the consumer as higher beef prices anyway.

That does it. Next year i am raising my own beef. :-x

Attached is a link to the toxic release invintory for this company. They are required to continually monitor their discharge. They are liable for fines on a PER DAY violation of maximum permissible levels.
