After observing the primary caddis hatch on a stream just below Benton PA, last season, My goal was to tweak a pattern to replicate the bug from the "fish's eye-view". The result was a blend of 3 patterns. The EHC, CDC & Elk, and the Fluttering Caddis. After a full season of out-fishing my standard caddis patterns, it's here to stay.

The Benton Caddis Recipe

Hook: #12 Orvis Tactical Dry Fly
Thread: 8/0 Olive-Dun
Abdomen: Olive CDC
Thorax: Brown Dry hackle
Wing: Light Elk

Dammit, one of my secrets has been discovered!!

They work :)

It's good to note that you figured out my trick: I use a bit longer hackle than traditional caddis calls for.

For some reason I think they look like dangly legs.

I happen to know the landowner of that property where this secret caddis was discovered.

That you do, That you do....You can probably guess the long pool as well. :)

I agree. On standard EHC's I often find myself v-notching the bottom a well.

Gonna have to try these out and gotta stop by to meet you yet and get a badge Ron.

Also Ron,any update on a future fly shop in Benton?
