What are a handfull of beginner flies to try and tie? I mostly fish in chester county.

My vise arrives tomorrow and i wanted to pick up the materials needed. If anyone can suggest some id greatly appreciate it.

I would pick up a copy of this:
http://www.amazon.com/Orvis-Fly-Tying-Guide-Tom-Rosenbauer/dp/1592281214

It has a beginner friendly variation of most major fly types, and is what got me started. I would be happy to loan you my copy, but it's already on loan.

I'd recommend hares ear, walt's worm, pheasant tail, and some caddis larvae.

Thanks guys. I did get the orvis book the other day.

This is a great site.....I know it helped me out with alot of things.

Anglers Net

peacock herl, pheasant tail, hare's ear dubbing, hen hackle for wets ,**** hackle for dries, thread ,hooks, copper wire from an extension cord, and sally hanson hard as nails.that would keep you busy for a while.

here is a neat little fly it looks like it would be a good producre tied smallert than 12 like sizes 14 16 and maybe 18 tug bug

Essential Trout Flies by Dave Hughes is another good book to get you started. Heck, I still look at it quite ofter for new ideas, etc...

One basic fly most people start with is the wooly bugger.
