Just thought I would make a post Dedicated to bass flies. I am really enjoying tying for warm water species and thought it would be cool for a thread based on just bass flies.

Please post up bass flies you have done. I am really into tying with craft fur at the moment. Hoping it is durable. I may end up seeking another type of material to use in its place if it not.

I cant wait to give those Cohen crayfish bodies a try.

Wanted to ask on FB Mike....how do the crayfish bodies work? Good lookin flies....as usual.

. I'll tie this one hook point up.

Thread the hook then tie in some dumbell eyes onendure it rides that way.?

You puncture the body and slide it down.

I'll tie in some cactus chennike and wrap it up to and one wrap after the eyes.

I'll run a bead of i-Easy glue on top of the chennike and adhere the body to the cactus chenille.

I'll then tie in the crazy leg skirt. Thinking I'll put a dab of UV resting on the thread.

If you were talking about how well the catch bass I wouldn't have a clue as I think I gave fly fishing for bad onetry like 6 years ago. I just sold my bait caster to fund my warm water tackle.

The crayfish aren't my cup of tea, but it's always useful to experiment with different materials and tying techniques and this is especially true with flies like these tied with synthetics.

Oftentimes one can blunder into a happy accident that not only looks good in the vise but performs well in the water. Moreover, these kinds of experimets lead us as tiers to think differently about how flies are designed and "built" - a valuable evolution for any tier IMO.

I've been working on some poppers. o

Here is one of my all time favorite Smallmouth Bass patterns - the Wooly Bomber. Red dumbbell eyes (tied Clouser style), Bunny strip tail, chenille, and strung saddle hackle - very simple tie. Black and Olive are my two best producers but if I could only have one fly in my smallie box it would be the olive one. I think the black one could be taken as a Hellgrammite. The olive ones are just flat out fish catchers as I have caught many different species of fish on this fly. These are tied on size 8 hooks but I do tie them up to as big as a size 2.

Finished up the Cray fish. I think these turned out pretty cool. I think they will work well, but the crayfish bodies are more of a tie in feature. I believe that I feel that the other crayfish I did with the rabbit strip claws and furry foam were more fun to tie, and create something using materials only, without these tie in synthetics.

Nice looking flies. I might have to tie some of these. I'm always looking to expand my smallie arsenal.
