Auto Reels

Was cleaning out some junk in the basement and found my Pap's south bend automatic fly reel. He gave it to me many years ago when I was a kid. I remember playing with it. Anyway I took it apart and cleaned it up and it still works fine. Anyone out there ever actually fish with one. I am thinking I might give it a try. It has a trigger one it and that makes me want to try it.

great for panfishing from a pram-
would not want to use one on snook.
I had perrine-they are ideal for fishing from a boat for non-runners but when they finally figured out right handers better off with left side winding reel it pretty much killed off the need for automatics

i have an old south bend o-ren-o-matic reel that i use for bass and panfish.i have a lot of fun with that reel.i strip in by hand and use the automatic just to take in excess line.

My Dad use one all the time, many years ago I tried using it, never could get use to it!

Wish I still had that old thing, another lost treasure!
