A lot of really nice flies in the contest. The big news for everyone here is our Rick Nyles took third place. Congratulations to Rick with his Up and Down Green Drake.

Third place
Fly by Rick Nyles of Fleetwood, Pennsylvania
All of the judges said they have never seen biots used as a wing material in a dry fly, but this fly used them, probably to help simulate the wing profile and help balance the fly. With hair tails, biot body, and what looks like a combination of snowshoe rabbit and hare’s ear fur in the thorax, this is an all-natural fly with 21st century design aesthetic. Without even fishing this one we know it will be a top choice for really fussy trout.

You can check out more on the Orvis site here.

Cool looking fly, love the first place too

Congratulations Rick.

Here's a pic of the fly:

Congrats, Rick.

Almost all natural materials, but it would have been nice to give a shout out for your awesome winging material UPDNTROUT.

Those of us that have seen Rick tie already knew what a great and creative tyer he is. He's a magician with cdc, for sure.

Congratulations Rick, that is really a neat fly and worthy of recognition.

Congratulations, Rick

Well deserved recognition!

Congrats Rick! That's a great looking pattern. Nicely done.

Thanks, it was a nice surprise.

Very nice Skyblue!
Congrats

Congratulations SkyBlue. What a nice concept of the Green Drake!! As said in the original post, looks like it would be a must for those fussy & picky trout, (especially of Penns Creek),. Great Job!

Congrats Rick, awesome looking fly.

GenCon

Congratulations Rick! That is a great looking fly, and a very creative use of biots ;-) Well done!
Mike.

Don't tell anyone but it does work on Penns, Big Fishing Creek and the Delaware.
