I am looking for a 3-4 wt pack-able rod, preferably graphite. PM or email me.

Andy

Hi Andy,

If you can find them, the Powell Sweet P 6'6" 3wt 3 piece glass rod is the way to go. It isn't your typical glass rod. I dislike glass in general because it is much slower action than I am used to/like, but the Powell Sweet P is moderate fast and is the best rod yet I have found for packing it in on blue lines. The fit, finish, and performance are excellent. Keep an eye out on Sierra Trading Post as they regularly list them for $59.99 (retail is $110), but they go FAST. The rod does come with tube. My other favorite on the graphite side of the house is this one from Cabelas/Bass Pro:

You can't beat Cabelas warranty and this rod performs as well or better than rods 3x the price. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like the SweetP is no longer on the market. Will look at the Cabelas.

Most of the rods in my rotation are glass but some of my fav carbon rods are the redington classic trout rods. Have a couple of these as well but the best for packing in is the 8' 3wt 6 pc. The rod tube is 19.5" and with a $10 ebay rod tube shoulder strap, it makes a nice tight package thats easy to manage on the stream.

If I'm blue lining and working in and out at the same location, I usu just hang my tube on a tree away from the path and pick it up on the way out.

BTW, I have two sweetP's. The 7' 4wt (red) and the 8' 5wt (blue) absolutely love them both and got them at Sierra.com for $65 each. Really fun rods but like most modern glass, they're both 3 piece rods. The 4wt case is 31" the 5wt case is 33". A little big for me to pack in.
