Hi all.
I was down in Waynesboro, VA, over the holidays and had a chance to check out the South River. I know it is a haul from PA, but the real intriguing thing that makes it applicable to keystone fly fishers is how the grassroots effort of anglers is turning the river around.
On January 1st, a delayed harvest stretch became catch and release. Also, another beat gained fly fishing only status.
The river has really rebounded and become a legitimate trout fishery, again thanks to conservation spearheaded by anglers.
I realize that the variables that go into posting the special regulations are legion, and that some states/municipalities have much harder battles, but this is a cool story about public and private cooperation for the betterment of a resource.
Here's a little more on the South River.
