Be in the area in the coming weeks.

Any good wading spots around the area?

Looking forward to it even more now with this cold blast.

Sebastian Inlet is about 15 or 20 miles south. I'm sure there are a lot of places closer, but it's a nice area with plenty of access. Fishing the inlet is like fishing a big river. Snook, Bluefish, Trout, and maybe some Pompano on the beach.

See if these help. GG

Sebastian area very good but anywhere from New smyerna [sp]down to fort pierce good fishing .If you aren't familiar with that type of fishing would suggest a guide at least half day--and starting with the unmentionable outfit-lots of fish but you gotta know where to find them or you could waste all your time where they ain't.. obvious ones of course-bars[no not that kind] mouth of creeks on falling tides, oyster beds, around bridges, under docks,...if you haven't fished them go for the reds,or jack families, trout probably out of season, and one snook just to say you got one--watch the razor sharp gills.
Think ambush points-good place to start.

word of advice to those not use to Intracoastal waters--
wear long pants ,shoes-stringrays all through there-spawning season you won't believe how many... also watch out --some places have what I think of as "quick mud". Especially the tidal creeks--
If you can get a kayak do so--far better to get to ambush points.Around islands usually better than the long flats,..
Some areas such as Indian river lagoon you will barely notice any tide but does effect the fishing-wrong tide you can watch schools of reds swimming by and they won't hit anything-not on the feed-the fish are there but can be as finicky as browns...

Thanks for the heads up.

Yes, funnel areas for the tides with current breaks for ambush (my favorite) are bridge fenders with lights and a moving tide- had good success for snook in that scenario.

I'll be wading with my girlfriends 10 year old so maybe a few hours at a time. (probably just fish the tides) Luckily he is super into fishing and has way more patience than I at his age. Also, it will be a novelty to fish with bait and a spin rod.

Get some jigs and a popping cork. fish the jig under the popping cork. ie Cajun Thunder
Tip the jig hook with shrimp bits. Cast out and reel and pop. Any local tackle store can set you up. Bridges and docks should be good spots especially with good current flow. As Pete said ,be careful of soft bottom areas. Sting rays, not so much this time of the year.GG

The guys at Harry Goodes can steer you in the right direction. You can rent canoes and kayaks down at Sebastion.
